Drawing Machines is a series of performative kinetic sculptures that reimagine everyday surfaces in the public realm – streets, sidewalks, beaches – as canvases for mark-making. These machines and their human operators draw with water, sand, light, and other fluid materials to create ephemeral drawings. Each drawing machine is constructed entirely from found objects – printer parts, a discarded bike rack, tattered office chairs, an abandoned garden hose, fragments of lumber – and many are reassemblages of previous drawing machines.
